Finance Committee · Meeting of October 5, 2026

Westborough's Advisory Finance Committee grilled Finance Director John over $4.2 million in misposted fiscal 2025 accounts, though he said the audit wasn't "qualified" and no taxpayer money was lost. The town's usable free cash effectively dropped from about $20 million to $16 million pending reconciliation, with $3.6 million of that actually owed to the town through sources like Chapter 90 road funds. Consultants from CLA aim to finish fixes by Nov. 30, ahead of a Dec. 1 state deadline tied to setting the tax rate.

Member Jane pressed: "The question is what's the fix and how do you fix it?" The town's short-term bond rating held at SP-1+. The committee also approved its Oct. 1 minutes 7-0-1 and expects a special Oct. 15 meeting to vote on the last Fall Town Meeting warrant article.
