Finance Committee · Meeting of September 3, 2026

West Brookfield Finance Committee approves $9,009 transfer after insurance budgeting error, hears clean fiscal 2025 audit. Teresa, of the town's financial team, told the committee she "missed the excess liability" calculating the general insurance line, prompting a unanimous reserve fund transfer that left the account at $145,579. The audit's management letter carried just six findings, prompting one member to call it proof the town's troubles are "the shortfall of money," not mismanagement: "The money doesn't exist." Town administrator Chrissy reported the treasurer collector's office collected $220,000 in delinquent taxes this year, up from $78,000, and that an outside assessing firm, RRG, added $163,000 in unassessed property value to the tax rolls.

Chrissy also plans to bring a short-term rental tax proposal to a special town meeting tentatively set for January 2027, calling it "just like a meal's tax."
