Finance panel approves $65,000 for audit cleanup
Westborough's Advisory Finance Committee approved a $65,000 transfer to fund consultants cleaning up FY2025 audit problems.
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Westborough's Advisory Finance Committee approved a $65,000 transfer to fund consultants cleaning up FY2025 audit problems. Finance Director Jonathan Steinberg told the panel the audit, while unqualified, found reconciliation failures, misposted revenue and documentation gaps between the treasurer-collector's office and the general ledger, "not a qualified audit, so they weren't questioning the bottom line." The committee voted 6-0 to move $25,000 for a first consulting phase and $50,000 for a second from its reserve fund, which cannot be replenished until free cash is certified. Because of the delay, the October Fall Town Meeting warrant grew to eight articles, dropping permitting-software and EV-charging requests.
A drafting error was also caught: an Affordable Housing Trust transfer tied to the Del Webb Chauncy Lake development is $1.4 million, not the $400,000 listed in the draft warrant.
