DOUGLAS --
YOUTH LEAGUES
Douglas Youth Baseball and Softball League (DYBSL) is now taking registration for its 2027 winter skills clinics, a free six week program for baseball and softball players. Baseball sessions run Tuesdays, 5 to 6 p.m. for T-ball and coach pitch and 6 to 7 p.m. for minors and majors, meeting in March (2, 9, 16, 23, 30) and April 6. Softball sessions run Thursdays, 5 to 6 p.m. for 6U/8U and 6 to 7 p.m. for 10U/12U, meeting in March (4, 11, 18, 28) and April (1, 8). Both programs are held at Douglas Elementary School, with spots limited to 25 players per session; the league is encouraging early registration.
DYBSL is also continuing its "Swinging for the Fences" capital campaign to rebuild the youth baseball field at Soldiers Field, citing uneven surfaces and inadequate safety features on the current field. The league says it has raised $35,000 toward its $50,000 goal.
Separately, Holy Cross baseball and softball teams are hosting a youth clinic for ages 8 to 12 on October 25 from 2 to 4 p.m., rain or shine, with skills and drills, interactive games, and photos and autographs with players. Registration is open through the league's website.
DYBSL also continues to seek volunteer coaches at every level, particularly for T-ball, and said it will hold a Spring 2027 pre-season coaches meeting, with location and time to be announced.
