Douglas Open Space Committee Accepts Annual Report, Advances Donation Account Plan

DOUGLAS — February 10, 2026 — Douglas Open Space Committee moves toward a dedicated Unibank donation account and eyes a 22.8-acre conservation parcel. The committee, chaired by Sue Perkins, voted unanimously Tuesday to accept its annual report — updated by member Becky Callagher to reflect trail improvements at the Leon Wasinski Conservation Area — and began finalizing a narrative description required for Select Board approval of a new private-donation account. The account narrative, drafted by Callagher, covers four broad categories including trail development, land conservation, community outreach, and habitat management. The committee also discussed a 22.8-acre Parry Street property listed at $375,000, down from roughly $400,000, which abuts existing conservation land; members mentioned the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the PARC grant as possible acquisition vehicles but took no formal action. A field walkthrough of the Wasinski and Dubie conservation properties with a town official is being planned for after the snow melts.
