Douglas Historical Commission Eyes Town Meeting Vote on $4,000 Soldier's Field History Boards
DOUGLAS — April 29, 2026 — Douglas Historical Commission advances $4,000 Soldier's Field interpretive board project toward Town Meeting. The commission reviewed draft designs for two 42-by-30-inch high-pressure laminate panels to be mounted on the concession stand at Soldier's Field, memorializing the professional ballplayers who played there, with Hall of Fame players identified in bold type. Article 18 on the town warrant seeks the $4,000 from free cash and has already won unanimous support from the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee approval with one abstention. Member Rebecca Lavallee, who designed the panels, will prepare up to three slides for Town Meeting Moderator Keith and plans to be on hand to answer floor questions. The commission also identified several design corrections needed before ordering, including a repeated word, a misspelling of "welcome," and an unresolved question about whether to render the field's name with an apostrophe — the press box itself carries none.
