Douglas Heritage Committee Gains Volunteers, Eyes Two Parades, Loses Member to Resignation
DOUGLAS -- April 16, 2026, Douglas Heritage and Honor Committee prepares two parades, reports $1,000 in sponsorships, and reorganizes after a member resignation. At the April 16 meeting, the committee welcomed four volunteers for its May 23 Memorial Day Parade and June 27 Independence Day Parade marking the nation's 250th anniversary, including a Daughters of the American Revolution contingent planning a period-costume trailer entry and a Civil War reenactor. One member announced a premier sponsorship of $500 for the 250th event and a $250 donation toward Memorial Day, with Gregory's restaurant adding another $250 gift; the committee said it has now begun a third production batch of its 250-unit commemorative challenge coins, available for a minimum $50 donation through the town's Unipay portal. Near the meeting's close, a committee member resigned her official seat, citing her pregnancy, but pledged to continue in a volunteer capacity; the committee deferred a reorganization vote until its April 24 meeting, pending the return of absent member Randy and an anticipated Select Board appointment on April 22.
