Brookfield Board of Health Votes to Pull Disputed 2023 Minutes, Post Clerk Position

Other Committee · Meeting of June 24, 2026

Brookfield Board of Health votes to pull disputed 2023 minutes and restrict computer access. The three-member board, chaired by Jake Hill with Vice Chair Kim Simmons and Member Maureen Leapak, voted 2-0 to temporarily remove both versions of May 24, 2023 meeting minutes from the town's online portal after former member Christopher Kelleher filed a written grievance alleging the minutes previously found noncompliant by the Massachusetts Attorney General under Open Meeting Law case 2024-45 had been republished alongside the corrected version. The board also passed, 2-1 with Leapak dissenting, a three-month restriction limiting access to the board's office computer to the clerk only, following what Hill described as secondhand concerns about files being accessed or moved.

A unanimous vote directed Hill to consult with Town Administrator Lori on wages and hours before posting the permanent clerk position. The board nominated Leapak as Region 2 Public Health Emergency Planning delegate for fiscal year 2027, with Hill as backup, and Hill as the Leicester Regional Coalition advisory board delegate, with Simmons as backup, both by unanimous votes.
