Select Board · Meeting of May 27, 2026

Brookfield's Select Board tabled a proposed $85-an-hour pay rate for an interim town administrator after a member objected it wasn't on the agenda. The board had voted last week to hire the interim administrator but clashed over compensation, with one member calling $85 an hour "too big of a number" next to the roughly $93,000-to-$114,000 posted range for the full-time job; a $73-an-hour compromise was floated before the item was tabled to a special meeting. Separately, the board authorized Vice Chair Richard A.

Chaffee and former Highway Superintendent Herb Foley to use town equipment to clear a catch basin covered by nine inches of plowing debris that a Kimball Street resident, John Shay, says has left his bathroom unusable, forcing him to pump his septic tank several times a week. The board also approved warrants of $212,508.55 in payroll and $314,220.50 in accounts payable, backed a grant application for an emergency generator at the town water supply, and voted to send a letter of support, signed by Executive Assistant Karen Trainor Resseguie, for a regional study of the Route 9 corridor.
