Berlin Select Board Restarts Town Administrator Search After Finalist Takes Another Job

BERLIN — July 8, 2026 — Berlin Select Board votes to reopen town administrator search after finalist withdraws. The board voted unanimously at its July 8 special meeting to direct its existing screening committee to interview additional applicants from the current pool and forward at least two candidates for board consideration, after finalist Alex McGee accepted an offer from Chelmsford. Chair Lisa told the board the committee would need to post a meeting notice by Thursday or Friday to allow a screening session early the following week, with board interviews potentially scheduled for July 16. A full new search through firm MRI would cost an estimated $2,700 in advertising and background checks, but the board agreed the existing pool should be exhausted first. At least one member insisted finance credentials are a non-negotiable threshold: "If you don't meet the basic requirements, I'm not interested in interviewing."
