Berlin Conservation Commission enters closed session over Sawyer Hill Road
Conservation Board · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Berlin Conservation Commission enters closed session on Sawyer Hill Road, weighs agent search. The board voted unanimously to enter executive session under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 30A, Section 21A(3), to discuss litigation strategy tied to an enforcement matter at 231 Sawyer Hill Road, then unanimously accepted its September 2 minutes. Staff said conservation agent Julia has resigned and is relocating to Pennsylvania, calling her "the glue that held it together." The commission has received 16 applications for the vacant post and is narrowing the field for interviews, with member Carolyn assisting.
Members also reviewed a roughly 60-page National Grid notice of intent for utility pole replacements ahead of an expected October 7 hearing, and discussed a proposed meadow restoration and accessible trail near Lyman Road developed with Sudbury Valley Trustees staff Dan Stimpson and Jim McCook. "The sky's the limit as far as what you can do, but I'm afraid that low-hanging clouds are the limit with what we have for resources," one member said of the commission's capacity.
