Auburn School Committee bids farewell to 12-year Chair Jessie Harrington at final meeting
AUBURN — April 29, 2026 — Auburn School Committee sends off 12-year Chair Jessie Harrington with legislative citations and unanimous votes. At the April 29 meeting, Superintendent Beth Chamberland, committee member Meghan McCrillis, and State Senator Moore each offered tributes to Harrington, who joined the committee in May 2014 and assumed the chair in May 2022. Senator Moore delivered two citations — one from the Massachusetts Senate, signed by Senate President Karen Spilka, and one from Representative Paul Frost — before all six building principals presented Harrington with school gifts. The committee also observed a moment of silence for grade 2 teacher Doreen Guittarr, who died April 21 after 25 years with Auburn Public Schools. In business, the committee unanimously approved 2026-2027 student handbook updates, budget transfers dated April 29, and a motion to forgo a pre-town meeting session; the Encore adult transition program handbook vote was postponed to allow members more reading time. Bus registration fees rise from $125 to $150 per child after May 1, with the family cap increasing from $300 to $350.
