Ag Commission To Fix Garden Lot With Highway Help

Agricultural Commission · Meeting of March 10, 2026

Berlin Agricultural Commission agreed to work with the highway department to regrade the flooded garden parking lot using highway department surplus material instead of town funding. Treasurer Clerk Laura Busky reported 23 applications for community garden plots this season, 19 from Berlin residents and four from neighboring towns, and said the treasurer's report showed $7,163.37 in the donation account and $987.13 in the town budget line. Members discussed donating an unused raised garden bed to residents of Northbrook Village, a private facility, after a consultant sought donations on Facebook, but reached no final decision.

Busky said a highway department contact, identified only as Fred, offered milling material at no cost, since "you cannot use" Chapter 90 road funds on the garden's driveway-classified entrance. A planned mediation training session was pushed to June or August after the presenter was never invited. All three procedural motions, minutes, treasurer's report and adjournment, passed unanimously.
