Worcester College To Add NCAA Women's Flag Football Program
Worcester's sports news this week centered on planning rather than games.
WORCESTER --
TOWN -- The Worcester Parks Commission, meeting Oct. 22, reviewed early renovation plans for the Bell Pond Beach area off Belmont Street. Commission staff said the project would focus on the parking lot, the beach, the basketball court and the existing building, with plans to extend the playground, add new seating and picnic tables, improve accessible access to the beach and sand, and install additional lighting at the basketball court. Commissioners also discussed adding bicycle parking near the playground. Staff said a separate, uphill portion of the park containing the athletic field and existing trails is not part of the current master-planning phase and would be addressed later. No timeline for construction was given at the meeting.
COMMUNITY -- Worcester College is preparing to add NCAA women's flag football to its athletic offerings, Patch reported, describing it as a rapidly growing sport that the institution is bringing to campus.
