Winchendon wins fourth straight Mass Trails grant for rail trail

Winchendon has secured its fourth consecutive Mass Trails grant to fund improvements to the town's rail trail, while the Winchendon Fire Department responded to a haz-mat investigation, according to the town's News Flash feed.

The town announced it has been awarded its fourth consecutive Mass Trails Grant, which will fund continued improvements to the Winchendon rail trail, according to a News Flash post from the town. The repeat award marks a sustained state investment in the town's trail infrastructure, though the release did not specify the grant amount or the scope of the coming work.

Separately, the town is seeking a resident to fill an open seat on its Audit Committee, per a News Flash notice. Town Hall also continues to sell its 2026 Toy Town Christmas Keepsake Ornament, featuring Clyde, described as the first in what officials hope becomes an annual tradition; it is available online, at the Planning & Development Office at 109 Front Street, or at To Each His Own Design.

The Winchendon Fire Department also confirmed it is conducting a haz-mat investigation, per a News Flash alert, though no further details on location or cause were provided in the release.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Beals Memorial Library has a full slate of programming this week. Storytime and the Summer Reading Club both continue Friday, July 24, alongside a Victory Garden presentation the same day. Parks & Rec is also hosting a free community open mic and picnic in the park on July 24.

Saturday, July 25 brings The Reminisants Concert, billed as an afternoon-into-evening event of live music. The library's Summer Reading Club resumes Monday, July 27, alongside Lego Club, a yoga session with Chantal from Shadow Alchemy Wellness, and a Cookbook Book Club meeting.

COMING UP

Storytime at the Library and the Summer Reading Club both continue Friday, July 24, alongside the Victory Garden Presentation and the free community open mic and picnic in the park.

The Reminisants Concert takes place Saturday, July 25. The Board of Selectmen meeting scheduled for Monday, July 27 has been cancelled, but the Summer Reading Club, Lego Club, yoga with Chantal, and Cookbook Book Club all meet that day. The Beals Memorial Library Board of Trustees meets Tuesday, July 28, when the CFCE Storywalk and Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club are also scheduled. Wandering Wednesdays, a Parks & Rec program, is set for Wednesday, July 29.
