Winchendon Wins Fourth Straight Mass Trails Grant for Rail Trail
WINCHENDON — Winchendon has been awarded a Mass Trails grant for rail trail improvements for the fourth consecutive year, the town announced Thursday. The same day, the Board of Selectmen imposed a moratorium on new solicitation permits, and the Economic Development Task Force unveiled a new partnership to produce a professionally illustrated town map.
TOWN HALL The town has secured its fourth consecutive Mass Trails grant to fund improvements to the local rail trail, extending a multi-year streak of state support for the popular recreational corridor.
The Board of Selectmen has issued a moratorium on new solicitation permits, a restriction affecting door-to-door and vendor solicitation activity townwide.
The Economic Development Task Force announced a new partnership with Discovery Maps to create a professionally illustrated visitor and community map highlighting Winchendon's attractions, businesses, services, and destinations. The task force is expected to continue that work at its next meeting.
Separately, the Audit Committee is seeking a resident to fill an open seat.
COMMUNITY & ARTS Beals Memorial Library's Summer Reading Club continues with sessions scheduled through next week, alongside recurring children's programs including Storytime and Lego Club. The library is also hosting Theater Squad and a caregiver support group, Walking Beside You, for residents caring for aging family members.
Parks and Recreation has booked a free community open mic and picnic in the park for July 24 and an outdoor concert by The Reminisants on July 25, promising an afternoon and evening of live music.
COMING UP The Economic Development Task Force meets July 22 to continue work on the town map project. A cluster of town boards convenes July 21, including the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals on a case at 10 Cummings Road, the Parks and Recreation Committee, the Council on Aging, and the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School's 2026-2027 Policy Subcommittee. The library's CFCE Storywalk and Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club are also on the calendar July 21, with Wandering Wednesdays returning July 22 and Bingo at the Hub set for July 23.
