Winchendon Lands Fourth Straight Mass Trails Grant for Rail Trail

WINCHENDON — Winchendon has landed its fourth consecutive Mass Trails Grant to fund improvements to the town's rail trail, Town Hall announced this week, as officials also released a June department-by-department update and put out a call for a resident to fill an open seat on the Audit Committee.

TOWN HALL The town's News Flash confirmed Winchendon has been awarded a Mass Trails Grant for rail trail improvements for the fourth year running, continuing a multi-year state-backed push to upgrade the town's trail network. The News Flash did not specify a dollar figure or a construction timeline for the latest round of work.

Separately, the town is seeking a resident to serve on its Audit Committee, according to the News Flash. No application deadline or contact information was included in the alert.

Town Hall also posted its June 2026 Department Update, a periodic recap of activity across municipal departments, for residents who want a fuller look at what happened across town operations last month.

COMMUNITY & ARTS Beals Memorial Library is rolling out a new "Walking Beside You" caregiver support group starting July 20. Parks and Recreation has two events on deck for the following week: a free community open mic and picnic in the park on July 24, and a concert by The Reminisants on July 25.

COMING UP At Beals Memorial Library, Summer Reading Club sessions continue July 17, 20, 21 and 22, alongside Theater Squad on July 17, Lego Club and a yoga class with Chantal from Shadow Alchemy Wellness on July 20, a CFCE Storywalk and Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club on July 21, and Wandering Wednesdays on July 22.

On the municipal calendar, several boards convene July 21: the MRVTS 2026-2027 Policy Subcommittee, Council on Aging, Planning Board, Parks and Recreation Committee, and the Zoning Board of Appeals, which holds an on-site session at 10 Cummings Road.
