Westborough Council on Aging Backs WRTA Contract Renewal After Program Saves $68,000

WESTBOROUGH — June 8, 2026 — Westborough Council on Aging unanimously backs renewal of its WRTA transportation partnership after the program's first year saved the town $68,408 and provided 3,688 rides. Senior Center Director Kendra reported that through May 31, WRTA drivers logged 2,352 hours of service and the town was reimbursed $8,374 in fuel costs, while riders saved an estimated $7,096 in fares eliminated under the new model. The most common trip destination was work, accounting for 777 rides, with one rider logging 191 trips. Kendra was scheduled to present the annual contract renewal to the Select Board the evening of June 9, ahead of the July 1 deadline. The council also heard preliminary research on potentially designating Westborough a dementia-friendly community, with a training session tentatively targeted for September, and informally agreed to keep its membership at 11 after a lengthy discussion, citing anticipated workload from the planned new senior center at the community center, whose construction scope the Select Board was set to decide June 9.
