Town Warns Residents of Permit-Related Email Scam

SOUTHBOROUGH — Town Hall issued a warning to residents this week about a scam involving fraudulent emails tied to permit applications, even as crews prepare to close Flanders Road for a highway interchange project starting Friday.

Southborough officials posted an alert flagging a "Permit-Related Email Scam" making the rounds, urging residents who have applied for or are considering town permits to verify any email correspondence directly with Town Hall before responding or sending payment. The town did not detail the exact method scammers are using in the public notice, but the posting was prominent enough to lead the municipal website's alert feed this week.

Separately, the town flagged that the Conservation Commission has changed its summer meeting dates, a scheduling notice posted alongside the scam warning. Residents with business before the commission should check the town's calendar for the revised dates rather than relying on the regular schedule.

The town also published its latest "Word on Common Street" newsletter, Volume 44, though no specific contents were detailed in the posting beyond the release itself.

Drivers should expect a detour starting Friday, July 18, when Flanders Road closes as part of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project, a state highway undertaking that has been working through the area in phases.
