Town Hall warns of permit-related email scam

SOUTHBOROUGH — Town Hall is warning residents about a permit-related email scam making the rounds, and it's inviting the town out to Polar Park next week for a "Town Takeover" benefiting the Southborough Scholarship Fund.

Town Hall posted an alert flagging a permit-related email scam targeting residents, urging caution around messages claiming to be tied to town permitting. The town did not detail the scam's specifics in the alert itself, so residents dealing with permit matters should verify any email through the town's official channels before responding or providing information.

Separately, the town's engineering office confirmed a detour is coming to Flanders Road as part of the I-495/I-90 interchange improvements project, with a closure set for July 18. The Town Administrator's office also published Volume 44 of its "Word on Common Street" newsletter Thursday, part of its regular effort to keep residents updated on municipal happenings.

On the lighter side, the town is organizing a "Town Takeover" at Polar Park in Worcester for Wednesday, July 22, at 6:45 p.m., with Southborough squaring off against Northborough, Westborough and defending champion Marlborough. Five dollars from every ticket sold, available via a QR code in the town's announcement, goes to the Southborough Scholarship Fund.

The Library Board of Trustees, Southborough Housing Authority and Affordable Housing Trust all meet Monday, July 20. The Community Preservation Committee meets Tuesday, July 21. The Municipal Technology Committee meets Wednesday, July 22 — the same night as the Polar Park Town Takeover, which starts at 6:45 p.m. and benefits the Southborough Scholarship Fund at $5 a ticket.
