Stevens Memorial Library Lands $20,000 Federal Literacy Grant

The Stevens Memorial Library has been provisionally awarded a $20,000 federal grant to launch a food literacy program for Ashburnham residents, town officials announced, while Town Hall prepares for an Aug. 31 hearing on a propane storage permit ahead of the Sept. 1 state primary.

Town Hall has scheduled a public hearing for Monday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 99 Central St., to consider amending an existing license for the storage of liquefied petroleum gas and propane in town, according to the town's News Flash postings.
The town's mandatory water conservation restrictions remain in effect through Sept. 30, part of an order that began May 1 covering outdoor water use across Ashburnham.

Stevens Memorial Library has been provisionally awarded a Library Services and Technology Act grant of $20,000 from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The funding, tied to a program called "At the Table: Food Literacy from the Ground Up," will support library programs and resources aimed at building food literacy skills among Ashburnham residents, with Library Director Jess Mynes leading the effort.
The library also released its new Strategic Plan covering fiscal years 2026 through 2029, building on the prior plan with updated objectives drawn from conversations with library stakeholders. The library, which serves a community of more than 6,000 people, continues its regular hours: Monday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; it is closed Fridays and Sundays.
