Southborough Warns of Permit Email Scam, Flags Road Closure Ahead

SOUTHBOROUGH — Town officials this week warned residents to watch for fraudulent emails invoking town permits, even as the Town House pushed out its latest community newsletter and drivers were put on notice for a weekend highway detour tied to the I-495/I-90 interchange project.

TOWN HALL

The town issued an "Alert: Permit-Related Email Scam" notice, urging residents to be cautious of suspicious emails referencing town permits. Officials did not detail the scam's specific wording in the public notice.

Separately, the town published Volume 44 of its "Word on Common Street" community newsletter Thursday morning, the latest in its regular series of town updates distributed through the official News Flash feed.

The Conservation Commission announced changes to its summer meeting schedule, per a "Conservation Summer Meeting Date Changes" notice posted to the town's alerts page. Residents with business before the commission should check the town calendar for the revised dates.

Drivers should also plan ahead: the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project will close and detour Flanders Road beginning July 18, according to the town's alert.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

Southborough is heading to the ballpark. The town is organizing a "Polar Park Town Takeover" for Wednesday, July 22 at 6:45 p.m., rallying residents to cheer on the hometown crowd against Northborough, Westborough, and defending champion Marlborough at the WooSox's Polar Park. Five dollars from every ticket purchased through the event's QR code benefits the Southborough Scholarship Fund.
