Shrewsbury Select Board Reappoints Town Manager Mizekar Through June 2029

SHREWSBURY — April 28, 2026 — Shrewsbury Select Board unanimously reappoints Town Manager James Mizekar and approves a $226,391 school funding increase for FY27. Vice Chair Beth Casavant presided over the April 28 meeting in place of Chair Theresa Flynn, leading the board through Mizekar's annual public performance evaluation — which yielded a compiled overall score of 4.4 out of 5, between "exceeds expectations" and "outstanding" — before the board voted to reappoint him to a three-year term running July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029. Mizekar told the board that the House Ways and Means budget shows roughly $530,000 in additional state aid over the governor's January figures, primarily from a nearly $450,000 increase in Chapter 70 school funding, and proposed applying those gains to lift the school department's total FY27 appropriation increase to $4,065,000 over current-year levels — a 4.5 percent jump. The board also approved a 3.5 percent aggregate water rate increase for FY27, putting a median residential customer's quarterly bill up $2.22, effective July 1, and adopted a new municipal property naming policy that will govern a pending proposal to name the new recreation building after former director Dawn Shannon.
