Sewer Commission Approves $339,779 Quarterly Billing, Moves to Extend Vendor Contract

Water · Meeting of August 11, 2026

Lunenburg Sewer Commission accepts $339,779 first-quarter billing and advances Laurel Lane pipe work. The commission, chaired by Brett Manson and joined by members Dan Proctor and Chip Wilson, formally accepted the first-quarter fiscal year 2027 billing commitment of $339,779.55 at its August 11 hybrid meeting, reflecting the town's recently enacted rate increase. Staff reported that pipe for a Laurel Lane sewer extension has been ordered and DigSafe notified, with work set to begin the following week to serve a new accessory dwelling unit at 100 Laurel Lane and leave a lateral stub for the neighboring property at 104 Laurel Lane.

The commission also extended its CTE OEM operations and maintenance contract through November to allow time to reissue it as a service contract, a reclassification that will require a town meeting article and state legislative action. Sewer Business Manager Bill Berner flagged a potential billing discrepancy, telling the board that the commission's bylaws appear to require the privilege fee be "equivalent" to the original betterment assessment rather than half of it as currently billed, a practice established by prior town counsel guidance that the commission said it will research before deciding whether to act.
