Select Board Calls Special Town Meeting for Tuesday, June 16

RUTLAND — A Special Town Meeting is set for this Tuesday, June 16, and residents face a double dose of reduced public-service access when both Town Hall and the Rutland Free Public Library trim their hours starting July 1.

TOWN HALL

The Select Board has called a Special Town Meeting for Tuesday, June 16; the agenda is posted at townofrutland.org. Also on Tuesday, the Finance Committee and Select Board each have separate meetings scheduled.

Two operational changes take effect in a little over two weeks. Town Hall and the Town Annex will move to reduced hours of operation beginning July 1 — full details are posted in the town's News & Announcements section. Separately, the town has issued an official statement regarding this year's 4th of July festivities; residents are encouraged to read that post on the town website before making plans.

The town is also filling two volunteer roles. A new ADA Commission is forming and seeking volunteers, and the Planning Board is looking for an associate member. Both openings are listed under Employment & Volunteer Opportunities at townofrutland.org.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Rutland Free Public Library is cutting its schedule beginning July 1, citing budget restrictions. Current hours run Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Under the new schedule, Tuesday hours shorten to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday stays at 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday shifts to a noon-to-8 p.m. window; Friday closes at 1 p.m. rather than 4 p.m.; and Saturday, currently closed through Labor Day, returns at a reduced 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. slot. The library at 280 Main Street remains closed Sundays and Mondays. Questions can be directed to Library Director Kerry Remington at kerry@rutlandlibrary.org.
