SHREWSBURY — The Shrewsbury School Committee unanimously approved Superintendent Ostrander's first-year performance goals and opened talks on a comprehensive policy review with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. Chairperson Rachel Sharikpour said partnering with MASC on an 18-to-24-month audit would bring "a different perspective" without taking policy decisions "out of the committee's hands." Members also held a first reading of updated Policy 325 on physical restraint, revised to match the state's amended 603 CMR 46.00, with a vote set for October 21. Principal Todd Lizidlow and Director of School Counseling Angie Flynn reported the Class of 2026 filed a record 4,308 college applications, with 80 percent of the 493 graduates enrolling at four-year schools.

The Student Advisory Committee reported Shrewsbury High School, built for about 1,250 students, now enrolls roughly 1,900, with a town-wide vote on expansion expected this fall. Two residents asked the board to loosen a "blanket food ban" on school-facility rentals.
