School Committee · Meeting of August 17, 2026
North Brookfield School Committee approves handbook overhaul and two new high school courses ahead of fall opening. Superintendent Tim McCormick reported 15 of the district's open positions filled for 2026-27 and detailed $65,000 in new state grants supporting a health care career pathway alongside the district's existing advanced manufacturing track. Director of Student Services Baldessire announced a $136,740 special education grant and a new memorandum of understanding with Behavioral Health Networks for in-school clinical care.
The revised handbook, largely rewritten by staff member Shelley Lecaire, adds an "alternatives to suspension" policy that McCormick said saved roughly 15 days of student suspensions last year. Members also unanimously approved Principles of Engineering and Introduction to Physics for the high school and the Valley View School curriculum, while deferring formal 2026-27 committee goals to September.
