Rutland Library Trims Hours Starting July 1 Amid Budget Restrictions

RUTLAND — The Rutland Free Public Library has scaled back its weekly hours under a new schedule tied to budget restrictions, trimming Saturday access during the summer months and shifting several weekday blocks effective July 1.

The Rutland Free Public Library, at 280 Main St., says budget restrictions are behind a new hours schedule that took effect July 1. Under the revised schedule the library is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. apply only outside the summer stretch: the library says it is closed Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day, meaning no Saturday service through early September. The library remains closed Sundays and Mondays. Library Director Kerry Remington oversees the Main Street branch, which continues to offer its catalog, museum passes and meeting rooms during open hours.
