Rutland Cuts Town Hall, Library Hours to Save Money

RUTLAND — Town officials have reduced operating hours at Town Hall, the Town Annex and the Rutland Free Public Library beginning this month, a cost-saving move flagged on the town website and library site as budget-driven.

The Town of Rutland announced new, reduced hours of operation for Town Hall and the Town Annex, effective July 1, according to an alert posted on the town's official website. The notice did not specify exact new hours for Town Hall itself, but pointed residents to a linked announcement for details.

Town committees continue to meet this month, with the Board of Health, Planning Board and the Fourth of July Committee all listed on the town's public meeting calendar for the week of July 13-14, and the Select Board scheduled to hold a public hearing later this month on a Class II auto dealer license for a property on Barre-Paxton Road.

The Rutland Free Public Library confirmed it is also reducing its hours starting July 1 due to budget restrictions. The library's new schedule trims Friday hours sharply, to 10 a.m.-1 p.m. from the previous 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and adjusts several other weekdays: Tuesday will run 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Thursday 12-8 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The library remains closed Sundays and Mondays.

Library Director Kerry Remington, Assistant Director Tricia Lowe and Youth Services Librarian Aislinn Lewis continue to lead programming, including the Salty Seniors Book Group, Adult Happenings, Kid Happenings and the library's Summer Reading Program, all still listed among ongoing library offerings.

The Board of Health meets Monday, July 13. The Planning Board holds a meeting Tuesday, July 14, the same day the Fourth of July Committee is scheduled to convene. The Select Board has a public hearing set for Monday, July 20, on a Class II auto dealer license application for 206 Barre-Paxton Road.
