WARREN — The Quaboag Regional School Committee approved a $24,190,847 fiscal year 2027 budget amid a funding standoff between Warren and West Brookfield. Superintendent Stephen Duff told members the level-service budget assesses $6,115,640 to Warren and $5,953,840 to West Brookfield, numbers he said "can only go down" once state aid is finalized. Duff said West Brookfield's advisory board reported a $302,000 increase in its required local contribution plus $200,000 in transportation costs, while Warren's Finance Committee says it cannot meet a $2.65 million level-service target.
The district faces an April 17 deadline on a $1.5 million to $2 million MSBA-backed window and door project at West Brookfield Elementary School. The committee also declared outdated computers and Chromebooks surplus and heard that a weekend heating failure at West Brookfield Elementary drained up to 1,300 gallons of water from the system, avoiding a repair bill Duff estimated at $20,000 to $30,000.
