Planning Board · Meeting of August 10, 2026

Sturbridge Planning Board approved a window and door showroom and began shaping a new solar and battery storage bylaw. The board voted 5-0 to grant Window Technologies Inc. a waiver of site plan to convert 494 Main Street into an Andersen Windows and Doors showroom, with owner Cedric Daniel and applicant Jeremy Kingsbury outlining eight conditions, including removing one parking space near a tight Route 20 curb cut. Town Planner Aidan Adams told members a new state consolidated permit law takes effect October 1 and warned Sturbridge risks losing local control over large solar and battery energy storage projects to the state's Energy Facility Siting Board if the bylaw isn't updated in time.

Adams said battery storage facilities up to 100 megawatts would need new local standards, with a final draft due by August 20 ahead of an August 24 vote. Member David Bourbeau pressed on how much land the town must set aside and how power lines would reach remote sites.
