The board, meeting Monday for roughly 15 minutes of open business, informally agreed that staff would check references for three candidates for a highway department vacancy before scheduling interviews, with one member volunteering as lead interviewer and Mike Granger identified as a potential participant. The candidates include Tom Magliaro, a current Oakham firefighter; Ron Ringard, a junior Rutland Highway Department employee facing layoffs due to that town's budget cuts; and a third applicant noted for holding a Class B commercial driver's license, a hoisting engineer license, and hydraulic system credentials. Separately, the board discussed a written request from Superintendent Pauli Muha, who said National Grid has put forward a new version of HVAC controls for the school — an update to an earlier proposal that had included a potential 50 percent rebate — and asked to meet before Town Meeting; the board tentatively set a technical meeting for June 10 at the school with facilities contact Kevin Clark, noting that the existing Siemens electric-pneumatic controllers are discontinued and no longer reliably sourced.
