Oakham Select Board Advances Search Warrant Push for Suspected Illegal Landfill

OAKHAM — June 15, 2026 — Oakham Select Board advances search warrant effort for suspected landfill property. The board met Monday and took steps toward obtaining an administrative search warrant to access a property at 358 where a possible illegal landfill has gone uninvestigated after months of denied voluntary access. Board of Health members Barbara and Lucy attended the meeting; Lucy, whose law license has been reinstated, offered to draft all warrant and affidavit materials at no cost to the town, with Town Counsel reviewing the package before filing. The board deferred a formal motion, pending a Board of Health vote Wednesday, June 17, with a joint follow-up meeting set for June 23. Separately, the board unanimously approved pursuing a written contract with John McCarthy for student transportation at $240 per day, down from an earlier $260-per-day quote and saving the town close to $4,000. Town Administrator Maribel also reported that the governor's office has requested voter participation data back to 2020 as part of its review of special legislation filed after the May 18 town election warrant was not properly posted through the town clerk's office.
