Millbury Library Rolls Out AI Literacy Help, Weekly Tech Drop-Ins

MILLBURY — The Millbury Public Library has introduced a new slate of technology assistance, including "Digital Navigators" on hand to help residents with smartphones, printing and downloading, alongside new Saturday drop-in tech help and August workshops on artificial intelligence, Microsoft Office and other digital skills.

The library says its Digital Navigators are now available at set times to give patrons more extensive one-on-one help with everyday tech frustrations, from setting up a smartphone to troubleshooting printing or e-book downloads. The push comes alongside a new Saturday drop-in tech help session and a series of August workshops covering artificial intelligence and Microsoft Office basics.

As part of that AI push, the library has posted a "How to Spot a Fake" checklist, adapted from media-literacy group NewsGuard, walking readers through telltale signs of AI-generated photos: warped hands and fingers, waxy skin texture, asymmetrical ears and eyes, backgrounds with garbled text or logos, and lighting or shadows that don't match. The library is running its AI-focused sessions on Tuesdays throughout August as a companion to the checklist.

The library's AI literacy workshop series continues Tuesday, Aug. 25. Its new Saturday drop-in tech help session is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, for residents who want one-on-one help with phones, printing or downloads without an appointment.
