Milford Select Board Hires Part-Time Inspector to Fight Illegal Rooming Houses

Milford Select Board unanimously appoints alternate building commissioner to crack down on illegal rooming houses. The board voted 3-0 Monday to hire Timothy Arcardi as a part-time alternate building commissioner at $65.28 per hour, 25 hours per week, at grade 11, step 6 — contingent on personnel board approval expected Wednesday. O'Loughlin Esq. cited a surge of single-family homes being rented out to as many as 10 unrelated occupants, with O'Loughlin noting that a South Main Street fire the previous day had exposed an illegal attic apartment. Building Commissioner John Erickson recommended the hire; Town Administrator Richard A. Villani Esq. said Arcardi previously worked for the town and brings direct zoning and enforcement experience.

The board also awarded a $175,000 interior Town Hall painting contract to Fox Painting Company of Arlington, accepted a $6,500 donation from Alavi and Braza PC for the Milford Youth Center and a $3,000 Benjamin Moore gift for the police department, and set the 2026 annual town meeting for May 18.
