Milford Select Board Approves $480,000 Street Safety Grant, Fireworks Deal

Milford Select Board unanimously approved a $479,923 Complete Streets grant and a 9.9 percent health insurance rate hike at its February 26 meeting. Town Administrator Richard A. Villani reported that MassDOT approved the town's Tier 3 application to the FY2026 Complete Streets Funding Program, with Highway Surveyor Scott Crisafulli set to use the funds to narrow Central Street at North and South Bow Streets, install new sidewalks and drainage, and upgrade the Youth Center crosswalk.

Human Resources Director Kristin Melpignano told the board the Blue Cross Blue Shield increase — down from an opening offer of 14.4 percent — was "actually one of the better rates" among comparable municipalities, achieved in part by dropping coverage for costly GLP-1 medications. The board also awarded a $20,000 fireworks contract to Ocean State Pyrotechnics for a July 5 show, approved a live entertainment license for OBA OBA Bar at 119 East Main Street capped at midnight, remanded two zoning bylaw amendments to the Planning Board for the May 18 Annual Town Meeting, and approved a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment for all elected officials before entering executive session on pending litigation.
