Conservation · Meeting of October 8, 2026

Mendon's Conservation Commission voted unanimously to issue an enforcement order over an illegally expanded wetland-turned-pond, closed a separate forest-clearing violation, and learned its conservation agent is departing for a shared post with Douglas and Sutton. The pond property owner, an attorney who represented himself, faces a required study after a 2015 permit lapsed without closure and aerial imagery showed alteration beyond its bounds; the agent recommended consultant Scott Goddard and said "we protect all isolated wetlands regardless of size." A report is due before the commission's first December meeting. Separately, commission members closed out a 5153 Washington Street forest-clearing order with two years of monitoring, and continued a stalled notice of intent for 109 Uxbridge Road.

The town is interviewing among 10 applicants to replace the departing agent, and the chair delegated Vice Chair Carl Hommel to a new Select Board task force reviewing the town's building permit workflow.
