Lunenburg Council on Aging Forms Subcommittee to Push for Senior Mail-In Voting

LUNENBURG — June 9, 2026 — Lunenburg Council on Aging votes to pursue mail-in voting for town elections and names a new honorary member. The board, meeting June 9 without Director Deborah or Administrative Assistant Michelle Beauffin — both at a town-wide training — unanimously approved forming a subcommittee composed of members Adam and Ana to work with the Select Board and Town Clerk on facilitating mail-in voting for municipal elections, with a draft letter due at the next meeting. Newly seated Select Board liaison Glenn McLeod called the concept "spot on" and noted that existing absentee-ballot infrastructure may already offer a framework. The board also amended its honorary-membership policy to allow recognition of individuals who were not former board members, then immediately named Susan Doherty — a longtime Eagle House presence — as an honorary member, on a nomination submitted in writing by Pete, himself a prior honoree. A fifth unanimous vote directed the Town Manager to post the COA's policies-and-procedures packet on the town website. Members also raised unresolved concerns about the transparency of the COA gift fund, which holds approximately $1,300 according to a secondhand report, alongside a separate Eagle House Supporters fund that recently received a roughly $4,000 gift from Charlene Adams.
