Library, Town Hall Cut Hours as Budget Restrictions Take Hold

RUTLAND — The Rutland Free Public Library has reduced its weekly operating hours starting July 1 due to budget restrictions, while several town boards and committees meet this week to conduct routine business.

TOWN HALL

Rutland Town Hall and the Town Annex have moved to reduced hours of operation beginning July 1, according to a notice posted on the town's official website. The town did not detail the specific new hours in the posted alert, though residents can find updated schedules on the municipal website.

Several town boards have meetings scheduled this week. The Board of Health meets Monday, July 13, followed by the Finance Committee, the Planning Board, and the Fourth of July Committee, all convening Tuesday, July 14, according to the town's public meeting calendar.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Rutland Free Public Library has cut back its hours of operation starting July 1, citing budget restrictions, the library announced on its website. The new schedule sets hours as Tuesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Thursday noon-8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m., a reduction from the library's regular hours that had run later into the evening and offered fuller weekend availability. The library remains closed Sundays and Mondays.

The library continues to offer its ongoing programs, including the Summer Reading Program, Salty Seniors Book Group, and Beyond Books offerings for younger patrons, alongside services such as museum passes and the Commonwealth Catalog for interlibrary loans. The Library Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Thursday, July 16, according to the library's calendar.
