Library Marks Kindergarten Send-Off With New Youth Programs

LEOMINSTER — The Leominster Public Library filled Tuesday's schedule with children's programming aimed at easing the start of the school year, headlined by "The First Day! A Play About Going to Kindergarten," while the city's downtown calendar fills out with new business openings and a return of live music this month.

The library ran three youth programs Tuesday: "A Tree's Life!" at 10 a.m., "Fairy Fun for Little Ones!" at 2:30 p.m., and "The First Day! A Play About Going to Kindergarten!" from 6 to 7 p.m., timed to families preparing for the new school year. A previously scheduled "Teen Tournament Tuesday" was canceled.

The library's adult and teen calendars stay active into next week, including a Wednesday session of "Not Another Estate Planning Seminar," a Brown Bag Book Group discussion of "The Light Between Oceans," and a Teen Movie Thursday screening of "Twisters."

COMING UP

Leominster's Downtown Sounds concert series continues Friday, Aug. 14, and returns again Aug. 21. The city has ribbon cuttings on the calendar for Joly's Cafe on Aug. 14 and Cornerstone Caregiving on Aug. 19, signaling continued business turnover downtown. The city's Household Hazardous Waste Collection is set for Saturday, Aug. 15. The Planning Board meets Monday, Aug. 17, and the Leominster Housing Authority meets Wednesday, Aug. 19. At the library, Chess Club meets Monday, Aug. 17.
