Library lands $20,000 federal grant for food-literacy program

ASHBURNHAM — The Stevens Memorial Library has been provisionally awarded a $20,000 federal Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to fund a new food-literacy program, while Town Hall continued to flag detours on three roads through the end of the week.

The Department of Public Works is advising residents to expect detours and delays through Friday as crews perform road work on Harris Road, Stowell Road and the Route 101 corridor, according to a town alert posted this week. The town has not specified an end date beyond July 17.

Stevens Memorial Library Director Jess Mynes's staff announced the library has been provisionally awarded a $20,000 Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The grant, called "At the Table: Food Literacy from the Ground Up," will fund library programs and resources aimed at improving food-literacy skills for Ashburnham residents. The library also released its FY26-FY29 Strategic Plan, which the board says builds on the previous plan with updated objectives shaped by conversations with library stakeholders.

Separately, the town announced a series of free community offerings at Winchester Park, including a live aerial performance and a Monday-evening fitness series, both open to residents.
