Fitchburg declares new tourism marketing district, extends landfill sticker deadline

FITCHBURG — The city has formally organized a new Fitchburg Tourism Destination Marketing District and given residents extra time to buy their annual landfill stickers, according to notices posted to the city's website Thursday, as officials also pressed residents for input on a regional housing plan.

The city posted a formal notice of the declaration of the organization of the Fitchburg Tourism Destination Marketing District, a new designation aimed at supporting tourism promotion in the city, according to the city's website. No further details on the district's funding or governance were available in the posted notice.

Separately, City Hall extended the deadline for residents to purchase their yearly landfill stickers to September 30, giving households additional time before the fee for trash disposal access kicks in.

The city is also continuing to post updates on downtown infrastructure work under its "InTown Downtown" project, and it issued a Spanish-language notice, "Cambios en el lugar de votación," alerting residents to changes to a local voting location.

City officials, working with Leominster, are asking residents to weigh in on the joint Fitchburg-Leominster Housing Production Plan, a state-required roadmap for adding housing stock across both communities. Residents can review the draft plan and take a survey through a link posted to the city's News Flash page.
