EAST BROOKFIELD — May 18, 2026 — East Brookfield Select Board seats new member, clears year-end budget transfers, and signs Annual Town Meeting warrant. Meeting with only two of three members present — Chair Andy Lavasher and newly elected member Amber — the board approved two year-end appropriation transfers: $6,000 each from the Vocational School Tuition and Transportation accounts to cover a highway fuel shortfall, and a separate transfer from the Veteran Services Benefits account to cover highway maintenance and electricity costs. The board also unanimously authorized the chair to sign a Chubb public-safety disability insurance policy for $40,874, a coverage that Lavasher said had gone inadequately funded for four to five consecutive years. The board signed the warrant for the June 10, 2026, Annual Town Meeting and agreed to invite Water Superintendent Jake to the June 1 meeting for a full review of billing, disconnection, and connection policies — a discussion prompted by a resident asking how to stop being billed $325 per quarter for a closed business with zero water use. A $496,800 federal emerging contaminants grant was confirmed as reimbursable after months of uncertainty, with two held invoices totaling $258,000 to Winston Builders awaiting final authorization.
