Downtown Parking Garage Opens as City Reviews FY27 Budget
LEOMINSTER — The city's downtown public parking garage has officially opened, while the Leominster Public Library kept a full slate of summer programs running for residents of all ages this week.
TOWN HALL
The Downtown Public Parking Garage is now open, according to the city's News & Announcements page. City officials also flagged that the Fiscal Year 2027 Mayor's Budget is available for public review, and posted updated FAQs on home business rules and the Flamingo Express transit service. The city continues to post updates on the Monoosnoc Brook Stabilization Project as work progresses.
Residents with questions on home-based businesses can review the newly posted parameters, and two continued public hearings — Notice P 62-26 and Notice P 69-26 — are scheduled before the city for Monday, July 13.
SCHOOLS
Leominster Public Schools notified families that registration for the Creative Choices Before and After School Program for the 2026-2027 school year opens July 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with limited space available. Families were directed to their child's elementary school page — Priest Street, Fall Brook, Frances Drake, Johnny Appleseed, or Northwest — for details.
The district also reopened its waitlist for tuition-based peer preschool slots at Bennett Preschool for the 2026-2027 year; children must turn three by August 31, 2026, to qualify. Families can call the Bennett Preschool office at 978-534-7704 for more information. The district additionally posted 2026 Summer ESY bus schedules for Fall Brook, Johnny Appleseed, Leominster High School, Northwest, and Samoset.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Leominster Public Library kept a busy midweek calendar. Monday's offerings included an English Conversation Class, an Alzheimer and Dementia Caregiver's Support Group, a kids' "BINGO Blast!," a "Buildwave" building event, and Teen Tournament Tuesday. Wednesday brings a Sensory Bin Story-Time themed "Construction Zone!" and a "Soap Attack!" soap-making session with Garine Arakelian of Kulina Folk Art, followed Thursday by the Brown Bag Book Group discussing John Grisham's "The Guardians" and a Love Monster story and craft session for young readers.
Looking ahead, the library's Chess Club meets July 13, and the city's community calendar lists Bohemian Night at Carter Park (Noche Bohemia) for Saturday, July 18. The city is also hosting Semi-Final and Final Soccer Watch Parties on July 15 and July 19, respectively.
