Douglas Select Board Appoints Two Volunteers, Defers Liquor Store Sign Waiver

DOUGLAS — April 21, 2026 — Douglas Select Board approves two committee appointments and two business licenses in unanimous votes. The board voted 4-0 Tuesday to appoint James Farrell, a Birch Street resident and business owner, to the Economic Development Commission and Meg Schleisman, a 40-year community member and Planning Board volunteer, to the Heritage and Honors Committee — both bodies that have been short on members. The board also approved a Class 2 used-car dealer license for James Brevilleri of All Around Auto Sales, operating online-only at 824 Northwest Main Street, and renewed a junk dealer license for Bopre Scrap at 93 Cliff Street. A sign waiver request from Douglas Village Package Store, seeking a 24-square-foot blade sign three times the bylaw's 8-square-foot limit, was continued after board members raised safety and aesthetic concerns; they asked the sign company to return with a vertical design. Town Administrator Tim Menaric reported that one formal written offer for the Gilboa Street warehouse facility is in legal review with developer CRG and that a tenant announcement could come within weeks, and confirmed Fire Chief Verneau plans to retire.
