Council on Aging member resigns; new nonprofit targets $1 million for community center pool

WESTBOROUGH — May 11, 2026 — A Westborough Council on Aging member resigned at the board's May 11 meeting, citing concern the council had moved away from its mission to serve seniors. The departing member, identified as Nancy, told colleagues she had served for many years but could "no longer wrap my head around" the council's current direction, adding, "There is no disgrace and no shame in being a senior citizen." Separately, council member Evan announced the formation of the Westborough Community Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit aiming to raise $1 million — primarily for a pool and surrounding space — to reduce the tax burden on residents when the proposed community center comes before town meeting for a funding vote. A staff member noted that privately raised funds would not require a new town meeting vote on the pool, which was removed from the project after an earlier funding vote failed, but cautioned that any pool funding must be accompanied by plans for staffing and ongoing maintenance. The senior center also reported 353 rides in March, a 58-ride increase over February, and previewed a new monthly cable-access TV interview show, "The Next Chapter," set to debut May 20.
