Sturbridge's Conservation Commission reappointed its chair and vice chair and approved five wetlands permits Thursday. Commissioners swapped two proposed river birch saplings for a single three-inch white oak at 98 Westwood Drive after Chair Edward Goodwin argued plantings should be judged "in 40-year chunks as opposed to four-year chunks." The board issued unanimous negative determinations for patio work at 15 Carey Road and a septic replacement at 1 Leno Road, plus three certificates of compliance. Vice Chair Erik Gaspar pushed to continue a National Grid transmission-line tree-removal request pending documentation from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Conservation Agent Lauren Vivier said an $800,000 Walker Pond culvert replacement is planned, with a public information session set for September 14.
