SOUTHBRIDGE — The Southbridge Liquor Licensing Board suspended Kohassee Golf Club's liquor license pending a hearing with its owner. The move came after proposed manager Ryan admitted he has "no experience as a bar bench" and no crowd-control certification, and after the town's liquor licensing agent reported the club illegally bought alcohol from a package store to supply a last-minute 200-person wedding and that a patron was arrested after an August 1 over-serving incident. One board member abstained, citing a personal relationship with Ryan; another said "it is our fault" for previously approving a manager with no experience.
Planning Director Peg Dean urged a faster hearing, saying "liquor's a big deal for profit margins." The board set November 19 for the continued hearing with owner Ken and ordered Ryan to cease and desist operating under the license immediately.
