Board of Assessors · Meeting of October 5, 2026

BERLIN — The Berlin Board of Assessors learned two staff members resigned within weeks of each other as the town heads into its annual tax-rate-setting season. Assessing staffer Linda Barisha told Chair Kevin Pond and member Roger Bradley she resigned effective September 9, 2026, but will stay on as a paid consultant to finish the tax classification hearing; colleague Christine Peterson resigned September 3 for a full-time job elsewhere after Berlin could only offer 25 hours a week. Barisha said certification is complete and tax bills should arrive around November 15 or December 3, "probably not a Christmas tax bill." Chapter exemption applications are due December 1; senior, veteran and blind exemptions are due April 1.

The board also fielded a request from Jennifer Pike to shift its meeting night from the fourth Monday to the third, which Pond said needs "a little more homework" before any change. The board approved its August 24 minutes unanimously and adjourned at 6:22 p.m.
