Auburn Select Board commends snowplow driver, fills two zoning board seats

AUBURN — February 9, 2026 — Auburn's Select Board voted unanimously Monday to commend DPW snowplow driver Matt McGarry for pulling an elderly man from a snowbank during the January 25 storm, approved a $85,489.28 special education stabilization transfer at the request of the School Committee, and appointed two associate members to the Zoning Board of Appeals — real estate attorney Christian Admiac through June 2028 and construction veteran Mr. Sheay through June 2027, each by a 5-0 vote. The board also voted 5-0 to authorize commendations for four Auburn police officers and Firefighter-Paramedic Scott Davis for their roles in the Central Massachusetts Regional SWAT response to a Spencer active shooter incident. A separate hour-long discussion on Arbor Recycling at 47-49 Rockland Road produced no formal vote; Town Manager Vakio agreed to seek additional legal opinions on whether a 1969 variance may have lapsed and whether resident-supplied time-stamped photographs could support zoning enforcement, after neighbor Tim Dailyaly testified that truck traffic at the site — sometimes beginning at 5:20 a.m. — has doubled over the past three years and that no enforcement action has yet been taken.
